I had the same Bt Home Hub without any problems for about 4 years and a nice steady speed of 2.2Mbps, it wasn't until they upgraded my exchange that is started causing me grief. So you should have got the line checked out.

We had a ritual with destroying ours too. YouTube is full of people destroying their home hubs. Mine used to reboot itself after 5 mins every single time without fail. Biggest pile of shit.
