  • I like drupal that way, but not using the ADMIN MENU module is heresy, who continues to install drupal without activating the admin menu module as a first thing ?

I like the fact that not every other noob can install and create a site with drupal, let it be that way for a long time, in the meantime let them use wordpress or joomla.

  • if at some point throughout the install process there was some kind of hint that this admin menu exists, let alone that it is so imperative to a good experience of Drupal, I might agree with you... maybe - at the moment tho' you need to have either prior experience with Drupal or psychic abilities to know this.

Everyone we exclude from using Drupal via poor usability is a potential amazing project contributor who may just be v busy when they try to install the first time...

  • cool

  • i am a complete noob on web building !!! (only maybe 3 mounts on it)

my first CMS was DRUPAL i posted my first page in 5 sec.

what does it mean about this 2 young couple ?????

when you buy new gadget you read the manual to operate it .

so read the DRUPAL manual , you have more than 20 E-books for beginners and advanced users. you also want to use Google to search some screen cast about it .

there is 2 types of noobs :

the stupid one or the smart one

    which you are ?

  • to view your site, just click on your site name beside the drupal logo in the header area

  • Noob installing drupal6 on Cpanel ready host site.

Spent hours trying to manually install, finally got it after cheeting and using fantastico, went to bed, got up and there was another upgrade pending install. Gave up for a few weeks due to screw up. Went back to Fantastico now have drupal 6.10, thought what the hell and installed it. Only to find another upgrade to Drupalt 6.12 needs installing. Which in itself is a pig to do. So Drupal 7 please make it more user friendly to get running.

  • I guess they will include it at some point in drupal. The admin menu module doesn't make drupal any easier to use other than the convenience of using a drop down menu instead of what you have experienced, click-wait-click again just to get to an admin page.

for the rest, the confusion is good and without all the potential amazing project contributors drupal is already doing very fine, I guess it's a filter against people not willing to try harder and it's not so bad.

  • I had exactly the same problems getting started with Drupal. Nearly *exactly* the same, good identification of usability issues there guys. :)

  • Yep, there you have it. Nice video BTW.

Although I like what Drupal does, the 'doing' is the hard part for new users and really shouldn't be. I now have to explain to users how to do the same. The Drupal learning curve somewhat 'glacial' and I'm really hoping they get this sorted in future versions.
