I don't think Sherlock's use of drugs should be considered that of a junkie's

Junkies use drugs often and are dependent on them

But in cannon Sherlock only ever used the drugs in between cases when he was bored, and when he it wasn't even a lot. And the way he says he's clean sounds like he hasn't used any for a long time either.

For some reason it really bothers me when people think he used to be a hardcore addict, when I don't think that is true at all in this series.

I love this part, because in the original stories by Doyle, Holmes actually did have a cocaine problem! I'm so glad the show has accuately captured both Sherlock's lifestyle and habits and Watson's masterful idiocy! ;)
