This show will become retro cool, because it always had a laid-back, adult sensibility. And when all you kids who grew up watching Nick in the 1990's get some disposable jingle in your pockets, you can demand that this promo be added to the DVD box set. (I was pleased and exhausted to write, produce, and direct it.)

  • Lol, I remember this promo. Is that you talking?

  • @awwfulwaafffle Ha! No, that's a voiceover guy I hired for the job. The creative conceit of this promo is that the characters were like action figures, each with his/her own plot line. I listened to lots of audition tapes to find an announcer who had done toy commercials. After I chose the guy, we still had to speed him up a little in the editing, because there was just so much to read. I always felt that this Big Pete spot was the best of them all, but there are spots for the other characters.

  • @ToddRuel The production on everything Nick was done so well and the way it was presented especially the shows in the afternoon or middle of the day were heartwarming to everyone. Even if you were a person who didn't watch Nick if you just were surfing channels commercials like this enhanced the television experience. From my perception It's like they always had the right people working on the job. Were you employed for Nick or contracting to them? And did you work on any other shows? So Cool.

  • @awwfulwaafffle Here's a life lesson for you: whenever something's cool, or it totally sucks, give the credit/blame to management. The people running the show and setting the tone for employees like me. I give credit to Geraldine Laybourne and Scott Webb. They were the President and V.P. of Creative Services, respectively. We did good, because they told us how to do good and gave us permission to do good. It's always that simple.

  • I remember this. Wow. It has been forgotten for 16 years.

  • thank you for uploading this

  • @ToddRuel Thanks for opening up Mr. Ruel, I'll always remember the good old days of nick. :)

  • @retronovation7, I loved their creativity too. That's why I wanted to work for them so badly. There was a VERY talented group of people there. Wanna know something else? I later became the Executive Producer for Nick Online on AOL. I got to work with another great group of people. One of them is none other than Hungry Girl: Lisa Lillien. She was/is a great talent, and so much fun to talk to. Those were good times, friend. Good times.

  • @ToddRuel Thanks for the insight, you did a fabulous job with this promo. As a 90's kid Pete and Pete was a big part of my childhood. I loved the creativity that Nick had during the 90's.

  • @retronovation7, I directed this promo. I worked in the Nickelodeon On-Air Promo Dept. We made the commercials for the shows. The shows were made by other people entirely. However, sometimes the promo guys did good enough work to merit their own shows. In fact, I think Pete & Pete was created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi, who both worked in the same department I did (although several years earlier).
