Technically, you can power off at any point and you'll start at the last Stage you were left at, but at the expense of losing one continue, as well as your weapons and score. That's the closest to saving in this game.

Contra "1" was on the NES, not the "original snes".

well on hard and normal mode you can upgrade your weapons by pressing pausing then press: up up down down left right left right a b or i think y b I don't remember (lol), then press start. about extra lives it only works on the unlockable games such as Contra (original)
