My poor old H/K ST-7 is biting it but I don't have the heart to get rid of it- especially when it sings one of my favorite songs! Where is a repair shop for it? And to think that I GAVE AWAY an ST-8 so many years ago FOR NOTHING!!!

  • one question, wtf is this thing?

  • @MrGabrielicious This is a 1976 version of an iPod.

  • @Mark5W8Comer connected to an macbook????

  • @MrGabrielicious Most of these phonograph demo movies have the cartridge output plugged into a preamp and then into the audio input of one Mac or another, the video camera is connected to the FireWire input. The movie is recorded with the video input of the camera and the line-level audio input on the back of the computer. In this way you get the best audio signal- no acoustic chain- you are not listening to the camera's built-in microphone.

  • Hi Mark, For my 21st. birthday I bought myself the Phase Linear 8000 I'm now 53 and I still have it and use it all the time. Parts are hard to come by so I found a 2nd one for parts. Hold on to yours and find another one, there out there buddy. ST-8 & ST-7 are great. I once saw what I belive to be a ST-6 and I could not belive how simple and how well it worked. Now that I think of it, I bet Harmon Kardon forgot how to fix it.

  • @ENCOMAN I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I first saw the Phase Linear 8000, and when I got home I couldn't believe what I paid for it! With a Micro-Acoustics cartridge I paid nearly $800. It was beautiful, though...

  • Polish and clean the tonearm rail to cure the tracking problem... the speed issue: you have new pots fitted, then that indicates it's a dirty micro switch which should be located close to the speed pots

  • Great song Mark! I love watching and listening to your linear trackers!

It's all personal taste I know but I much prefer the Pioneer PL-L1000 video you have on here!

These early Simple Minds songs take me back and I am currently buying up everything I can on vinyl of this great band!

    Thnx for the memory!

  • Yes fix it as this is one of the best tables ive ever owned. I have all pink floyd and they all play like a dream. I love my vinyl.

  • This can fixed easily. It is probably the rubber tracking wheel that tracks the rotating rod underneath. The rubber "tire" turns to goo. It needs to be disassembled and cleaned off. Replace the rubber goo with a correct sized O-ring. You will need to readjust the tracking speed with the small screw behind the tonearm.

  • @ENCOMAN It's way too cool to trash! The tonearm needs to be rewired, and I thing the tracking problem is probably due to the tire that tracks the rotating cylinder. I love this baby way too much to off it. I had an ST-8 back in the '80s that I GAVE AWAY! I'm kicking myself for it now...

  • Don't get rid of it, but send it out and get it fixed.

  • One of my treasured 12" singles to, love it.
