SPOILER ALERT - This is a video that explains the ending of the movie and the book Shutter Island. It also discusses the different ending between the book and movie. Many people leave the movie confused. The movie crams a lot of material into the last 10 minutes (which creates confusion for the viewer). It is for people who have ALREADY seen the movie. If you haven't seen it...don't watch this video.

That video was from a year ago...when I was training for the olympics and really skinny. I've bulked up since then :-) I still can't believe it got 90,000 hits.

  • I say he was sane, he allows the lobotomy because he's saying that it's better to die as Teddy, the good man he knows he is, than to live a lie as a complete monster like Andrew.

  • @killamanjaro306 This pretty much made me understand the movie.. Thanks :)

  • His wife was insane but he was too embarrassed about that to do anything about it because he's known as a great war hero and it's the 50's where men were seen as superior to women. He technically killed his children because he didn't get his wife help and he didn't wanna live with that. Sane or not he did what he wanted for himself. ALSO, I just wanna point out-look where they're walking at the ending. They're not going to Ward's A, B, or C and the last scene is the lighthouse where they contin

  • So ur sayin that at the end he gave up .. I think that Tedy has understand the hole thing that they were doing to him and at the last part he is saying that he was about to leave this island for good.. or die trying...

  • I disagree, you are ignoring the theory that he is sane.

  • true. it was a good movie and interesting.

  • Andrew is not really a monster. He didn't kill his children, he took his eye of the ball with his wife and thought that she would get better with time. He killed his wife true, but that was a crime of passion, overcome with grief and anger.

  • I believe that there were experiment going on in the island for a few reasons. One there was a general there or a military man , there are always military men preset when government experiments are being conducted. 2 chuck disappears in the movie for a while' maybe this was when he got brainwashed by the doctors . 3 a patient he interviews as teddy tells him to run in a note but when chuck his partner is away getting her water. I would love to be proven wrong because the movie still baffles me

  • I think he was getting drugged already on the boat when he smokes ciggaretes from the chuck. And it only got worse since, and that he was Teddy. That's what I want to believe.

  • @mikejbona I think his partner "chuck" is still on role play mode..
