the chorus of assasin on his new album sucks though. he should of left the it like it is in this video and kept the verses like they are on the record and it would be one of the best songs of the decade

I gotta say... I almost wish I hadn't heard this arrangement, because it's so much more fluid than the Battle Studies version. Plus the solo he throws into the song in the studio deviates too much from the overall feel of the song. Here's to hoping John records a studio acoustic version of Assassin...

@SamBooby123 I very much disagree. The key to many of Mayer's songs is his ability to do the same thing section-to-section but in a different way. Assassin's chorus is able to stay familiar in your ear while clearly giving something new to the song..

You could argue that that power chord progression is a little simplistic, but that whole song is simplistic. The guitar tone(s), unbelievable rhythm tracks, and near-perfect lyrics are what make it work, make it go..

@SamBooby123 I agree, even though I like the one on the record. This is insane as it's got this spanish flavor to it while still being all Mayer. So yeah, this sounds absolutely incredible.
