Lambda TV is a mobile entertainment network providing users with the latest in video, personalization, and lifestyle content. Lambda TV would be the first mobile network providing content supporting the LGBT market while still appealing to the mainstream market. Over the last several years a large number of GLBT targeted television networks have been making a push to grab market share. The problem with these in-your-face GLBT networks is that they tend to focus too much on the sexuality of the viewers rather than the lifestyle of the viewers. The GLBT population really wants a quality news and entertainment that supports their lifestyle and is sensitive to the issues important to the GLBT community. What makes Lambda TV unique is that it will focus on technology and content that supports the GLBT population by assuming they are a part of the mainstream. Not all content will have gay themes; that would not be a realistic representation of the gay lifestyle. Lambda TV will have gay friendly ad campaigns and will work with providers and advertisers that are GLBT friendly. Subtle symbols will be used to speak to the GLBT market in an effort to not alienate the mainstream market. This will all be delivered to the latest smartphone handsets via mobile applications. The name of the application and the network is Lambda TV because of the social significance of the symbol lambda in the gay community. It has been a popular symbol since the 70s, yet is almost totally innocuous to the general public because Greek letters are often associated with college fraternities. Symbols like the pink triangle and the rainbow are much more common place and might deter potential viewers to content that they would ultimately be interested in (10). One company Lambda TV would work with is FunnyOrDie.com, which provides original comedy content to users via the internet, and has produced several shorts supporting GLBT rights. Another company that would fit in with Lambda TVs mission is Timer Warner, not only for their great programming options but also because they received a 100 percent rating on the corporate equality index by the Human Rights Campaign.
