The name of the application and the network is Lambda TV because of the social significance of the symbol lambda in the gay community. It has been a popular symbol since the 70s, yet is almost totally innocuous to the general public because Greek letters are often associated with college fraternities. Symbols like the pink triangle and the rainbow are much more common place and might deter potential viewers to content that they would ultimately be interested in (10).
