HOMEBOY Documentary Trailer

Gabriel is a former gang member with two strikes. A third strike will put him in jail for life. Through Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, he and other at-risk youth have found jobs and support as they build a new life for themselves and their families.

Boston entrepreneur Jim McSherry has tackled a new project in his debut film, Homeboy. It chronicles three former East LA gang members whose lives have always been entrenched in that culture-as they share their dignity in the struggle to leave their violent lives behind through the triumph of the human spirit. The film is a blunt look at the reality of the gang lifestyle, without the usual Hollywood burnish and bluster. The sole purpose of Homeboy is to provide the viewer with a unique "moment in time" opportunity. Through visuals, music and dialogue, the film not only provides insight into a growing problem across the United States, as well as the world, but the opportunity to understand. McSherry hopes viewers who understand can then help change.
