Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi transfers her critical acclaimed and commercially successful graphic novels to the screen in this eponymous animated feature which chronicles her childhood in Tehran in the 1970s and life in Austria and France after the revolution. The cinematic adaptation retains the simplistic visual style of the original graphic novels to tell a richly layered and deeply affecting tale of political and personal repression, rebellion, disenchantment and hope.
