@MrLeClecle He electrocuted the elephant to discredit AC as bad because he owned a large DC generating plant and didn't want AC to become the norm, he didn't give a toss about protecting the people he wanted the fame and recognition as the inventor of the electricity everyone used.

@fishbones1963 You make me embarrassed to be a part of the human race. Edison was trying to prove the danger of electricity which wasn't common knowledge at the time. So he showed the giant elephant get killed by electricity to warn the world It was a blunt and direct point that would easily reach the minds of people all over the world. Far more than a lecture would. Cruel? Maybe. Necessary? Definitely.

This elephant, whos name was Topsy, had killed three people in a circus,so the owners had her put down. They had already tried poisoning her, and Edison wanted to test electricity for dangers, and exicution on people, so they electrocuted the elephant.
