Before taking on the job as America's Director of National Intelligence, Admiral Blair, a Rhodes Scholar, had done a stint as commander of U.S. forces in Asia and the Pacific and served on the staff of the National Security Council. He learned first hand about how vulnerable the United States and the Western worlds energy resources are because of our dependency on unstable regimes.
He carried these concerns with him after retiring from the Navy and got involved with organizations dedicated to weaning the West off of oil. He was active in convincing Congress to enact tougher automotive mileage standards and advocated the support of electric cars.
We caught up with the Admiral at the Beyond Oil Conference last September.
