UK residents awoke to the news that Barack Obama had won the 2008 U.S. presidential race. The result was warmly welcomed in the City:

2. OYEM, MEDICAL WORKER AT ST THOMAS' HOSPITAL SAYING: "I am proud of you and I am happy that the message that you have sent out to all black people is really good."

3. UNIDENTIFIED LONDON RESIDENT SAYING: "Keep the faith and remember your roots. Remember where you came from."

4. UNIDENTIFIED NURSE AT ST THOMAS' HOSPITAL SAYING: "Barack Obama, I hope that you will unite America and bring optimism and hope to the future for them."

5. LOLA PAUL, SENIOR FINANCE ACCOUNT, SAYING: "Well what I want to say is congratulations. You have made our dream. Luther King said he had a dream and you made that dream for us. Not only for the Americans, you made it for the whole world. We will continue to back you up and continue to pray for you. Thank you so much for making us proud."
