A Lesson in Pony Genetics

EDIT: After some thoughts and reading a few comments, there is possibly a lot more that could go into this video regarding genetics and Alicorns, but like I said, I don't want to delve too much into it at this time, maybe later after Season 2 is over and we have more information.

Yeah, that does seem like it would work. In fact, it would produce a ratio that would actually be higher for alicorns. I'm guessing that there is more to alicorns besides just these two genes though, and that's why we haven't seen them.

The ratio that would produce would actually be evenly spread... 4:4:4:4

@xvxtobyxvx There may be conditions that only males can get because it only affects the Y chromosones. So there may be a dominant Allele which makes you an Alicorn which is impossible to be a carrier of. Also, I don't think that wings and horns will have a seperate pair of Allele,s since tehy are'nt jstu a feature of Ponies, they are waht determine the species of a pony.

Mumble finds a pet in the background called it! Also, Alicorns just have stronger magic than Unicorns. I don't think that real life genetics would really work with Ponies, however it could be that neither having the feature or lacking it is dominant or recessive, but they have 3 alleles of each. Another thing to note is that it's probably impossible for 2 non Aliconr parents to ahve an alicorn child, but maybe Aliconr's alleles are different, jsut how Females have XX and males have XY so

Wings would also have the magic ability to let pegisi stand on clouds. Because the pegisi can rest on them it without flapping their wings, nor are thet exceptionally light compared the the other species. However normal earth ponies and unicorns cannot stand on clouds, without a spell, meaning that it has to be the wings. Does that make sense?

This does explain a bit. In Hearth's Warming Eve it is explained that the unicorns(plural) control day and night. Where as now one alicorn can do it alone as Celestia did for 1000 years.
