My memories must be fading now. The English teacher with the bassett hound was Bill Anderson? I thought he was one of the better teachers there.

Was Wee Eye not the technical drawing/woodwork teacher? "Methodical methodical methodical"

Also remember Messrs Benton (Chemistry) Coll (Physics) McNeill (Maths) Celli (Technical) Tauber ? (French?) Was he the one who was killed in a climbing accident?

Guggs Graham? I remember him all too well.

I was lucky enough to do just a year (1970-1971) before getting a far higher standard of education at Paisley Grammar School

  • Have seen quite a few pics over the last few years but this video really does bring back those memories to life! A real shame a building full of such history ended up this way.

    Ross Dellow 87-92

  • Deceit also played a part too - I was contacted by the school (30 years after I left - no idea how they found my address), they said they were establishing a register of former pupils.

It was nothing other than a thinly veiled attempt at fund raising.

Reading this posting only reinforces my view of the place as an anachronism within the educational establishment. One where violence was the accepted norm and education and intellectual stimulation came a poor second.

"Guggs" must have arrived long after I was there but expressions such as "hellish chiefs", "nancy boys" and "shit I was going to face in later life" acknowledge an acceptance of a regime way out on a limb.

How the school lasted as long as it did amazes me.

"Toughened you up" for what ?

Physically, maybe but intellectually it was a wasteland.

All designed, I presume, for the thick cheuchters, who predominated when I was there, and who didn't know any better.
