Jack's power animal is a penguin. A penguin is a bird that cannot fly. It's a metaphor for his inability to escape his life, he can't "fly away", per se. So he "slides" into different skin: Tyler Durden.

It's an Emperor Penguin & is known to carry out all incubating duties after the female lays the egg. When carrying out the incubating duties, male emperor's huddle together. It's for these reasons that the penguin is a significant representation of the emasculation theme in the film & how such feelings of emasculation bring about male "huddling" at fight club & the testicular meetings. Penguins also "slide" from their safe habitat to a dangerous sea, reflecting Jacks own journey within the film
