@gmkng3002 I know, but people can interpret that how they want. Jesus also said he didn't come to abolish the law of Moses and the prophets, but fulfill it. Also, the Bible doesn't define 'neighbor' as 'everybody'. I think most people just believe what they want to believe. But hey, liberal christians are nicer than fundies so... I'll shut up now.
@ifoxfirei in the gospels, some of Jesus's teachings override passages in the old testament such as the ten commandments. He said that the two great commandment were to love God and to love thy neighbor as thyself (Matthew 29: 36-39)
@KaelDragon The ad features a gay couple. The U.C.C. ordains LGBT ministers and many churches perform same-sex weddings. While an individual Congregation may choose not to do these things (in keeping with "Congregationalist" roots), the official stance of the national church is to condone churches who wish to call LGBT ministers or perform same-sex wedding ceremonies.
lowellballard, the bible also says not to touch the skin of a pig, eat shell fish, or wear polyester. Jesus said to love our enemies, yet we start wars. God said to Cain that if anyone tries to hurt you for what you did to your brother, they will receive it back 7 fold, yet we still believe the death penalty is ok. You don't practice everything in the bible, much less what's in Leviticus, so stop judging other people, and go learn something about Jesus.
A round peg doesn't fit in a square hole and two pegs or two holes don't fit together without duct tape. The Bible is practical, not "hateful".
Like it or not, the Bible says (in the same context) don't have "abortions" (kill an unwanted baby), don't have gay sex, and don't have sex with animals. See Lev 18:21-26 on BibleGateway. It says if we do these things, or even allow the society around us to do these things, then society will be defiled and we will have to live with the results.
@ifoxfirei The Bible doesn't accept bigotry but acknowledges that it does exist. Jesus died and rose for all men not just select men or races. I find it unbelievable for someone to say that it is bigoted in light of that fact. As Christians we need to accept all PEOPLE not all THINGS and the UCC is accepting all things without balancing standards with compassion. Compassion is necessary but the biblical standard must hold true
