They knew the state he was in and could have prevented him from making a fool of himself by simply saying he was unwell and stopping him from going on set, But humiliation of the great makes good tv. Disgusting.

I feel sorry for Oliver Reed because he was an alcoholic. He was distgusting, but he wasn't evil. I think he died the way he wanted to die - drinking in a pub. Drink is a demon, but it is also a doctor. It can't heal wounds but it can let them be forgotten for a short time.

Hell, this is what you get when you make a physically addictive poison that usually turns people into arseholes the only legal intoxicant, while making up lies to keep safer, better drugs illegal. Mind you, Olly lived as he wanted to, and died doing what he lved doing, drinking himself into a coma....I doubt he feared death one jot. There's a sort of Dylan Thomas nobility in that.
