A three-day celebration of the galleries and shops of Los Angeles's legendary design district.
The spectacular kickoff to a well-designed summer, this glamorous three-day event of cocktail parties, lectures, book signings, and more—the first of its kind in Los Angeles—underscored the glamour quotient of the La Cienega Design Quarter. The LCDQ, hub of West Coast interior design for more than half a century, is home to luxurious shops offering everything from antiques to fine art, plus fashion boutiques, charming bistros, and trendsetting restaurants.
Sponsored by ELLE DECOR, the opening night soirée at style mecca Therien & Co. on Thursday, May 8, saw editor in chief Margaret Russell greeting more than 1,000 best-dressed guests, including fashion designer Catherine Malandrino, interior-design-legend Carleton Varney, Ross Matthews of CBS Insider, and A-list designers including Martyn Lawrence-Bullard, Madeline Stuart, James Magni, Suzanne Rheinstein, Tim Corrigan, Waldo Fernandez, Joe Nye, Kim Alexandriuk, and Tim Clarke. So big was the turnout that the celebration literally poured out of Theriens ample courtyard into the street, as partying continued well after sunset.
The following two days were packed with dozens of star-studded events, among them notable authors putting their signatures on their best-selling books. Hutton Wilkinson signed copies of Tony Duquette at the Baker showroom—the blue-chip firm is reproducing some of the tastemaker Duquettes iconic furniture, lighting, and accessories—while actress Fran Drescher, author of Cancer Schmancer, held court at Jean Marc Gallery. Fans turned out in droves to chat with Jean Mathison and Peter Schifando, authors of Class Act, a lavish tribute to Hollywood film star and decorator William Haines, and design-book diva Diane Dorrans Saeks personalized copies of her latest publication, Santa Barbara Living. One afternoon a bevy of lissome models strolled about in the latest creations from Alice Temperley, Catherine Malandrino, Carolina Herrera, and Alexander McQueen at various showrooms, while promising local interior design students showed their visions for the future at Catherine Malandrino Maison. And on Saturday, automobile lovers flocked outside to see a concours delegance created just for the event, with fabulously restored vintage cars pulled up to the curbs in all their glimmering glory.
Elle Decor sucks! Horrible costumer service, worst I have ever dealt with. Took over a month to ship and they were very rude to me on the phone, I much prefer HomeSav, the costumer service is GREAT and the deal's are much better!!
