On the 26th of Dec 2008, I woke up from a long afternoon nap and went through my old CDs in the drawers looking to play some Christmas songs.
I chanced upon an old CD which I had bought in 1995/6 I cant really remember. Ironically I loved only two tracks in this album and never touched it for many years after briefly listening to it. I played my favourite two tracks that evening and later told my partner Lets go for a drive....the evening feels peaceful and so we grabbed our old Canon along. Initially we were intending to go for a movie but somehow I brought my partner to an old favourite family haunt where most of my familys special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries etc were spent in that seafood restaurant since I was a little boy. Memories about this restaurant kicked in and the place was so serene and charming just like how I remembered it during my childhood days. Just, down to earth good service and good wholesome food. We were actually a little short of cash that night but pleasantly the bill came up to something we could afford. In fact it was exactly what we had. lol :o)
So later we drove downtown to take some photo shots at the Christmas light up that usually adds to the Year End festive cheer. It was so serene that night. Apart from the usual petty fights that I had with my partner (She felt tired walking in heels) the night turned out really beautiful. People generally soaked in the atmosphere taking photos with their loved ones. Little children playing. There were the occasional professional photographers waiting for that magical moment to capture the spectrum of light entering their high end speed shutters. Shot they probably were taking for important reasons. Buskers singing Christmas Carols. Actually I wished for a puppy this Christmas and I realised that I already had a puppy under the Christmas tree all this while. I wished for a nice night out with my fiancée and I had it. I wished to give presents to all my family and friends and my wish came true. I wanted to witness great music from my idol Sting in concert but instead I witnessed the magical fingers of local blues guitarist John Chee at Crazy Elephant with my best buddy Darren over a Black Label whiskey on the rocks. I wanted to capture a full moon that night and He gave me a lamp ball that looked like a moon for my photos. It was like everything I wished for came true...only in a different but beautiful and meaningful way. The bonus was a majestic Angel had come to reside in my home this Christmas. Just fantastic.
When I reached back home at about midnight, I took some photo shots of the Christmas decorations put up in my very own home just to add to the collection of remembrance of Christmas 2008 in my journal. Also I will have to part with this old doll house of mine due to inevitable circumstances. So the photos that I took of my home this Christmas will stay in my heart forever. I admit that I am a house lover. Im not really a religious fanatic. I can't recite all the verses of the bible by memory and tell you what it means and all that. I don't highlight all the words and study it like a History textbook test thats going to happen the next morning.lol:oP I just love Music and Art alot. In fact me and my partner are just ordinary Catholics but somehow I really found tremendous joy doing this slide presentation the next morning after during breakfast. It was as if the big man in the sky gave it to me as a gift this Christmas. I added the favourite track from the CD that I found in my drawer. I guess God has been kind to me and this is one of the most meaningful Christmas I have experienced over the recent past years. Its like everything fell so perfectly in place for me this year. The joy of spending time with family and friends during Christmas is just unexplainably fantabulous. And if you're feeling lonely this Christmas, just remember that everyone has an angel watching over them. So despite all the hiccups of 2008, I realised that only in darkness can we see little lights immensely tranquil and at its best. Merry Christmas everyone and a significant 2009 to you.
