I am a huge Henson fan, and I really love this song (sadly, Jim died the year I was born...). It makes me sad to see how few people my age actually know who he is; for example, one day this guy came to school with a big beard (he had been out sick for a week and a half and didn't feel like shaving) that made him look like Jim Henson. I kept telling him he looked like him, and sadly he had no clue who I was talking about...

I'm pretty sure you missed the point of that verse. He's saying that Barney and Power Rangers lost popularity, as opposed to the Muppets that are still (in the Lynch's mind) just as great.
