I use the same hand digger, except I ground the tip to a point. WOW! What a difference. I also found a stiff blade, very sharp, drywall saw. Sharp point. Just plunge and cut a plug. Pop out with digger. Works for me.
Great video and tip! Had a similar experience and dug a neverending hole. I quit when it was elbow deep and I still hadn't found the target. I think it registered something like 7 inches down on the depth meter. I should have tested the signal further by simply raising the coil up off the ground 6 or 7 inches. If the signal disappeared, then I would have further evidence it was a coin. But if the signal continued to sound off then I would've known it was deep iron. Live and learn. heh-heh
