Story of Stuff - How Things Work, About Stuff, Part 1 of 3

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

  • you might say everyone agrees to there wages... have u ever heard of a slave??? they still exsist in this world today, and its more important to aknowlage this is true so we can change things for the better.

  • this may be left wing propoganda, but it has a lot of basic truths. like ur sayin its lies, well ur romantic idea that for every felled tree theres another one planted. that may be happenin where your from, but its defo not happenin everywhere. look at the philipeens from google earth. rain forsest are bein cut down for the palm oil and mining industries. and the people ARE being forced to move away from the homes.

  • @PreacherTHC I debunked the first 14 claims in the video which is the first five and a half minutes(ish). Every claim she made was either flatly false or a half truth. Just look ahead in the conversation thread. I post 6 replies to cover 14 points. I could have easily gone on and on and on, but I had other stuff I wanted to do today. I think it's fair to say that if the first 14 points she makes are all false or at the very least misleading, you can rightly assume the rest will be equally false

  • @HumbleWillis Interesting please tell me what is misleading about this video? Because I want to know the FACTS and if you say that this video is twisting the facts then please tell me which "fact" are being twisted and whats the truth behind them???????

  • @HumbleWillis 14) BFRs ... flame retardants. What are we doing using these? They are MANDATED by the government. Industry didn't want to use them, but have been forced to.

Look, I've destroyed every point she's made up to 5:41 in the video. I can destroy every argument she makes because they're all half-truth twisted anti-capitalist propaganda. I could do this all day, but I have better things to do with my time. Think for yourself and don't take anything at face value. She's feeding U lies.

  • @HumbleWillis ...Cont'd... 11) Deforestation. She talks about this like it's a tragedy, like we'll never see those trees ever again ... all the while failing to mention that modern logging regulations MANDATE that for every tree taken, 1 or more trees must be planted in its place. These forest are constantly being renewed.

    12) If you don't own or buy, you don't have value. Again ... FALSE. Everyone gets paid an amount that they agree to.

    13) Toxic contaminated products = Fearmongering.

  • @HumbleWillis 10) The third world. If we aren't just taking their stuff and walking away. We PAY them for their stuff, and if we didn't, they would be even more poor than they are now. Our industry in the 3rd world funds EVERYTHING there. Without us they have a bunch of resources they didn't use, and no money. They'd be nothing but a bunch of primitive cultures living in huts with no technology, no clean water, and no education. Our industry improves their lives.

    11) Deforestation....

    Cont'd...

  • @HumbleWillis cont'd... 8) "40% of our natural waterways are undrinkable". By today's standards, most of the water world wide has NEVER IN HISTORY been drinkable.

    9) "we have 5% of the world's population, but we're using 30% of the world's resources". What she fails to mention is that we use those 30% more efficiently than anyone else, and that this fact points out the degree of wealth and comfort in which we live compared to the rest of the world. We have it better here!

    Cont'd.

  • @HumbleWillis Cont'd... 4) Natural Resource Extraction=Trashing the planet? This is nothing short of fearmongering.

    5) "we are running out of resources, we are using too much stuff", here we have something that is flatly false paired with an opinion, both of which stated as fact.

    6) "In the past 3 decades 1/3 of the planet's resources have been consumed; gone." Again, flatly untrue.

    7) "we have less than 4% of the original forest left". Again, FALSE.

    8) "40% of our waterways have..."

    cont'd...

  • 1) it is NOT the job of the government to take care of us.

    2) Yes, some people have more of a say because they have more of an investment. You put more in, you get more out, and you have more to say about what goes on. This is reality.

    3) The reason corporations are so powerful is because corrupt politicians have sold their votes and created corporatist legislation. Held to it's true purpose, the government would not allow corporations to be so powerful.

    4) natural resource extraction... Cont'd.
