But how did you get him to hug her from the side like that at 2:10? I mean what interaction is that, cos I know there's a cheer up interaction, but the the sims stand face to face with eachother. Can you please help?

I downloaded an interaction box with three different 'crying interactions'. If you choose the one where they cry the hardest (forgot how it's called) another sim can comfort them. In the game it must be the 'crying' they do when a family member dies. As far as I know, you can tell another sim to comfort them too then.
