In this video, Betty uses a tip from her sister to demonstrate how to make Country Style Green Beans, without the fuss and trouble of starting from fresh beans. Straight from a can, with a little special seasoning, these green beans taste as good as the pressure cooker green beans we did earlier this summer!

Ingredients:

(2) 15 oz. cans cut green beans, juice included
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 packed Goya ham-flavored seasoning mix (This has the flavor equivalent to 1/4 pound smoked country ham.)

Empty 2 cans of cut green beans into a medium-sized saucepan, including liquid from cans. Add 1 tablespoon cooking oil and 1 package Goya ham-flavored seasoning. Stir until combined. Place a lid (that fits) on the saucepan, and cook until most of the liquid is absorbed. this will take about 2 or 3 hours. You may serve them immediately, or set them aside and heat them up when the rest of your meal is ready. Very carefree--and delicious!

  • These Green Beans Look so Good but I can't Find the Goya Ham Seasoning here in Northern Ca. Do you know of anything else Similar I could Use ??? Please Help

  • @DorPurseFreak You can buy it online. Just Google Goya seasoning, and you will find several places to purchase as much or as little as you want. You can actually cook fresh green beans seasoned only with salt and a little oil, and they are very healthy and taste great. The Goya seasoning just adds some ham flavor.

  • I found the Goya Ham flavored Seasoning at our Super Target. I wanted to ask - how long does it take for the bean liquid to be reduced to the "pot liquor" stage? (So that I can time my dinner.) Thanks! LOVE your recipes!

  • @bpeaches1435 It depends on how much liquid there is to start with, but it's probably about a half-hour. Thanks for your lovely comment!

  • AH ! I just finished my dinner and I used a little butter and my ham seasoning. My most favorite seasoning. I discovered it last year. Oh they taste great i red beans and rice. You and your sister discovered my little cooking secret. Betty LOL I live in NY

  • It has been a well-kept secret! I've been cooking green beans from scratch, but now, with the seasoning, I can just open cans! I think it would be great in red beans and rice also! Thanks for the tip!
