One of the first bands from the Canterbury School (SOFT MACHINE or HATFIELD AND THE NORTH), EGG was a trio consisting of... Dave STEWART on organ, piano and tone generator, Mont CAMPBELL on bass and vocals (also organ, piano and French Horn), and Clive BROOKS on drums. The music is very structured and composed, with classical pieces (BACH) and some light jazzy influences. The band explored a variety of time signatures and key relationships, sometimes explored classical ideals, and even composed their own symphony.

Canterbury band that released three organ-prominent albums. "The Polite Force" was EGG's second release, and was better developed musically from their debut, a style that was carried on to the subsequent "The Civil Surface". If you like that, go on and get the other two eventually. (if you don't like it, then don't bother). Fans of organ-driven progressive rock with a perfect 70's atmosphere will eat it up. Although EGG is an essential part of any progressive collection. A historical band...!

  • wtf is a tone generatror? a synthesiser?

  • wtf i thought some1 was crying man!!

  • WRONG DAVE STEWART PICTURED!!! You are showing a pic of the dave stewart of Eurythmics, NOT the dave stewart of EGG. They have been getting mixed up forever...please dont perpetuate the myth that they are the same guy. the guy pictured doesnt play any prog/fusion like the real dave stewart does.

  • Fairly certain it's a tone generator

  • this is the wrong Dave Stewart !! sigh

  • @Madnessfan34537 No. I just saw there was a question going on. It sounds like he has complete knowledge of this band.

  • @Quasi8 Did you look at stereom's comment?

  • If it ain't no guitar, maybe they are making some sort of treated feedback with a microphone.

  • I doubt there would be any guitar on this. An certainly the wrong Dave Stewart in the photo :)

  • @MrEbertScientist Mont Campbell himself has confirmed that Egg didn't use any synthesizers. Dave Stewart's rig was a heavily treated Hammond organ (along with Hohner Pianet) and tone generators.
