Woman is a power, the Drum is a power and a gift from the women to the men to carry. It's been said that both are rivers and at the point they converge anything can happen but it's very unpredictable. If you were in a canoe you might be shot forward, crashed on the bank, sucked down a whirlpool, held back, tipped over etc. What ever elder told you this needs to be told otherwise. Mens' roles are very different than womens' roles. Teaching the women, mens' roles is not carrying on the culture.

dáazho (hello), I think yes it is different to see girls in the drumming circle but in order to keep native beliefs and the way of life going after the elders pass this is awesome.....if more young people took an interest and learned from the elders our history and beliefs will not die. I think you should never be ashamed to be native and stand tall and proud! And stop wanting to be like the white man and embrace or differences.

I'm Anishinaabe from Minnesota. You can sing on that because it's not a dream drum. It's important to keep our songs and language alive. Keep up the good work. NAGAMON!!

Women in drumming circle. It is the only way I have seen it here in Northern Cal. Awesome sound the drumming and singing. I'm an outsider so maybe my opinion does not count. However, I have picked up a drum and would like to become involved in a men's drumming group. My drum is lonesome and I do not know any chants yet.

@LegendaryDynasty Thsi happens in Alaska. If you research teh Tlingits, men are the ones who traditionally sing and dance. Womens aren't supposed to. But that changed because of the shift in dynamics in the latter third of teh twentieth century, In my village teh men are supposed to drum and carry the gunhok. teh women sing pretty darn loud though because they easily outnumber the men on the dance floor.
if any 1 hasnt seen my details- every1 has their own opinion this video is of 2 groups that are from the same place but live in diferent places they have joined 2gether in the village that i live in,not much men that are interested in drumming where im from i am winnebago since there are no men to lead the drum i've gotten permission from 1 of the chiefs in wisconsin to drum just wanted to let everyone know about this im juss some1 that would like to keep our cultural alive.
