From: http://hvg.heinemann.co.uk/login.aspx. A report on tourism in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador: Quichua Indians bang trees as a warning to one another; their way of life is threatened due to oil exploration and farming; their cultural life is threatened by the government cashing in on ecotourism; a village chief notes the rise in foreign tourism to the region and that luxury lodges are being built on the Amazon tributaries; very little money from the tourism ends up back with the villages or in rainforest conservation; indigenous skills and bush craft are popular with the tourists and so the villagers have organised their own environmentally sensitive tourism.
