I have no idea how I got this to happen. I did a water change, dosed a little bit of Excel, and the Java Moss started pearling. The light on this is a plain fluorescent bulb, not even designed for plants.

  • if changing the water causes the pearling then that isnt "true pearling" but rather a release of excess gas due to temp. change. The one in the vid looks great.

  • ondeed, those ARE bubbles!

  • @theotheragentm Yes. It is gassing out of the water if you did a water change anytime recently before the video.

  • @theotheragentm healthy moss you got there :D

  • @Jagodamond thank you

  • @plecomeko Pearling is basically the plant producing oxygen like its suppose to :)

  • Can i buy some java moss plz?

  • Could someone please explain to me what pearling is?

  • Coulod someone please explain to me what pearling is?

  • @SmellsLikeFish44 Mine started to die off too so i took them out of the water put them in a plastic container and put them outside for 3 weeks in natural sunlight and made a water change every day. I really thought i was going to kill them more doing this because of the heat here in cyprus but they really did turn bright green in a couple of days. i keep half in the aquarium and half in a plastic container, when i see the stuff in the aquarium start going brown i swap them over.

  • Correct, tap water has dissolved gases which start to bubble off when it is put into the aquarium

  • When you do a waterchange, the water is saturated with oxygen, meaning it cant hold any more. When the moss starts to pearl, it is just the oxygen that is unable to dissolve into the water and bubbles out as a gas.
