Another scene clipped together from various adaptations of "Pride & Prejudice")...this is when Jane gets ill during her visit to Netherfield, causing Lizzie to follow her there.

The most recent film is the 2005 Focus Features version starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy, Rosamund Pike as Jane, Simon Woods as Mr. Bingley, Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennet, and Brenda Blethyn as Mrs. Bennet.

The 1995 BBC/A&E Production stars Jennifer Ehle as Lizzie and Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, with Susannah Harker as Jane, Anna Chancellor as Miss Bingley, Lucy Robinson as Mrs. Hurst, Crispin Bonham-Carter as Mr. Bingley, and Benjamin Whitrow and Alison Steadman as Mr. and Mrs. Bennet.

And in the 1940 MGM version which features Greer Garson as Lizzie, Laurence Olivier as Mr. Darcy, Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane, Bruce Lester as Mr. Bingley, and Frieda Inescort as Miss Bingley.

Hope all the fans of each version enjoy the way I've clipped them together!

  • the characters are so much more faithful in the '95, plus its the only one to portray Bingley as something other than an idiot, he is supposed to be obliging and a tad weak willed, but not stupid. Plus the 2005 depicts everything so dirtily, they may have been not well off but they could afford to keep their house clean!

  • 1995 much better, the 2005 may have better lighting and more natural, but the acting was not that great, mr Darcy is so not cool and I like ehle's character more.

  • Ah, my commet was cut off.

... her years, one of the earliest version of a feminist I dare say. The 1995 version of her is much truer to the novel I believe. Jennifer Ehle has a youth you would expect at that age but her youth comes with a sharp mind and wit rather than a boisterousness. Elizabeth Bennett was polite and not talkative, she reserved her wit for Jane, her Father and later Darcy, she wasn't quite as open as Kiera potrays. I must sound awfully judgemental, I actually quite love Kie

  • For those people commenting on how the 2005 version is more aesthetically pleasing over the 1995- I agree completely. But it is not about the sets it is about how fateful and adaption it is from Austen's novel. Jane in the 2005 version is the only person cast better than the 1995. True there are many sides to Elizabeth but silliness was never one of then- Mr. Bennett made that very clear. So that part of the 2005 portrayal is very inaccurate. Yes Elizabeth was young but she was mature beyond he

  • And I don't think the 2005 Lizzie was stupid. I think the 2005 one focused more on them being a family of young girls. And with such a mother AND father she must have a pinch of silliness in her. Indeed, she was silly enough to be blinded by her pride and prejudice of Mr. Darcy's true good nature.

  • I love both versions, 1995 and 2005 ones. Different facets of the characters were played in the different versions. 1995: Lizzie's prejudice and restraint are focused. 2005: Lizzie's fiestiness and youth are focused. So in the 1995 one her maturity is played on more (maybe because of the older actress) and in the 2005 one her youthfulness is played on more.

  • @princessewhiterose She was not suppose to be very attractive but plain. People can't help what their body shapes are now or back then.

  • Originally I thought the 2005 version was the better one; but after watching the 1995 version a few times, I decided tthat it is the best – the portrayl of character is richer and it keeps to the novel more.

  • In the 1995 version (the best) Netherfield is actually Edgecott House near Banbury, Oxfordshire. I pass it often but Bingley and Darcy are never Home. Shame eh!

  • I don't dislike the 2005 movie, but I terms of accuracy, I prefer the 1995 mini-series. Also, if we analyze the leads, Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth had sooo much chemistry, it's crazy. ;) Just love them together. In terms of cinematography (lighting, image, creative process), I preferred Joe Wright. For me, the 1995 version wanted to tell the story in being true to the book and the historical era, while the 2005 version told the story less precisely but in a more artistic way.

  • @Otisangel I mostly agree with what you say about the movie and the series, but regency started in 1811—when King George III was deemed unfit to rule and his son, the Prince of Wales, ruled as Prince Regent, though is father wasn't dead. The period ended in 1820 when George III died and the Prince was crown George IV. Some historians also expend the Regency era until Victoria, who became Queen in 1837. :) So the 1995 version's costume are accurate if we assume it's set in 1813.
