I made a close up of the Kel-Tec PLR-16 5.56mm NATO pistol (very fun) ejecting brass while I quickly fired 16 rounds of .223 in 3.4 seconds.

  • Interesting weapon without a specific practical use.

I wouldn't turn one down if someone gave it to me but I wouldn't buy one either.

.223 is a medium to long range high velocity round and using it in a short barreled (almost) handgun doesn't make sense to me.

This is just my "opinion" so don't get up my butt about it.

  • @hammerogod Admittedly, rifle rounds perform much better from a rifle length barrel, and the PLR-16 is very loud and there's a very large muzzle flash that represents a lot of energy that wasn't used to accelerate the bullet, but it still performs surprisingly well. It'll shoot through 3/8" plate steel (typically half inch for a .223 rifle), and the PLR-16 is very accurate when shot off a bench rest.

I know one thing for certain, if I took it to the range everyone would want to try it out.

    That is worth a lot.

(if I didn't have to pay for the ammo that is...and I think you know what I mean).

  • @hammerogod For all of it's accuracy off the bench and the considerable firepower it packs into a small size, almost everyone who has a PLR-16 uses it mostly as a range toy, and it excels in that capacity. It's so ridiculously loud that everyone takes notice and wants to shoot it. Grins all around.

I reload .223 on a progressive press and can't keep up with the demand.

  • I have honestly never seen one of these empty the mag wihout jamming before. Nice to see one operate as designed

  • @James57127 The PLR-16 is tight chambered for accuracy and there is sometimes a break-in period of several hundred rounds before they settle down and work reliably. Clean the chamber and feed them decent brass cased ammo and they stay reliable. Mine has many thousand rounds of my reloads and is very reliable. I finally broke a firing pin, which was an easy drop in replacement. Big smiles at the range when people shoot it. Cocaine's a helluva drug.

    :^)

  • @southparkfanatic101 Adding a butt stock converts the PLR-16 into a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR) according to the BATFE. If this is done without the federal paperwork and $200 tax paid, it's a major federal crime... up to ten years in jail. I think that's an unconstitutional infringement on my right to keep and bear arms, but it's the law, so there you go. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know about this law, which makes no sense, and they unintentionally violate the law.

  • @DoctorDreee I'm the only one here professional enough to handle a Glock forty, er, um, Kel-Tec PLR-16!

    BANG!

    Damn.

  • @hammerogod I know, my first thought when I saw this was, why? The new PMR-30 .22 WMR makes way more sense.

  • @hammerogod I hear ya but I have read in US forums that it is response to many states aversion to short barrelled rifles. thats also hear say so dont flame me if not correct!

  • @hammerogod ive got a good somewhat practical use for it on one of my vids. here is a hint: im using 2 of them. watch?v=JAfASP8WFTQ

  • big ass pistol!

  • @James57127 Funny......I have two of them, and neither has EVER malfunctioned, not even with the Beta-C mag. Don't have an exact count on rounds, but probably around 3,000 between them. I use P-mags almost exclusively.
