Using leather ends is a great way to finish off jewellery neatly, and makes it easy to take on and off, instead of simply knotting the ends like many people tend to do. All you need for this technique is leather or thread, leather ends and flat nosed pliers. For flat leather you use a flat leather end. Place the end of the leather into the leather end, and using the flat nosed pliers fold one flap over the other and flatten them firmly onto the leather.
For round leather you need to use Greek springs with loops on the end. These springs look like a small coil, into which you insert the end of your round leather. Gently squeeze the very last coil against the cord with flat nosed pliers. After the coil is squashed around the leather, give the leather a gentle tug to ensure the coil is secured onto it. Repeat this on the other loose end.

  • can you use the same technique for hemp thread ?

  • It is not recommended. The leather ends would not be able to hole the hemp thread in place properly, and they would eventually wear it away as it is too fibrous and irregular.
