Hence the name "Valkyrie PROFILE". The game is maneuvered in profile mode, moving left and right, as well as moving in and out of a 2D plane, and vertically through platforms and photon usage. The battle field is fully 3D. At first the profile nature of it through me off because I thought there would be no challenge to dungeon crawling... how wrong I was. It turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time.

No, it's not called 2D when you only move your character from the side. It's called platform. The game is in 3D and the maps are platform.
