"A Hazy Shade of Winter" is a song written by Paul Simon and recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1966 for their 1968 album, Bookends (although it also appeared on their Live from New York City, 1967). It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the second most popular song on the album after "Mrs. Robinson," which earlier reached #1.

The lyrics evoke the passage of the seasons, but (as the title suggests) focusing on the gloominess of winter. The chorus of the song repeats:

But look around,
leaves are brown now
And the sky
is a hazy shade of winter

Look around,
leaves are brown
There's a patch of snow on the ground.

  • Damn you're so unique and original someone should give you a medal.

  • im 112, i just died to this song!

  • this guitar riff was another you didn't need a teacher to learn- that means good. also the sunshine of you love (earlier) i feel fine - day tripper -pretty woman- inna gadda di vida . millions of self taught guitarists out there.

  • Hey. I'm 62 & heard this when they first released it. So what? Do you really need to show your age credentials here to justify your opinion? Do you need to criticize other people's spelling and grammar? Pathetic. BTW, I like S&G -and- The Bangles versions. Completely different sounds. Now play nice with each other, OK, kids?

  • LOL I'm 48 and I know nobody cares how old I am so I guess I see where you're coming from. I am glad you were mature enough to give me a straight answer. Respect!

  • :D
