@chubbs636 Check out some ballistics gelatin tests. Even cheap fmj .223 causes a greater wound than .45acp.. Hollow point, Ballistic tip, and Open Tip Match .223 are even more affective at destroying tissue and yet less likely than HP pistol ammunition to over penetrate.
-
pretty sure a .45 hollow point will do far more damage then a .223 out of a 16' barrel
-
@TONY45066 Less wall penetration if you buy the right loads.
-
@timmyjunior1 Yeah, it seems like a nice 12 ga would be safer for the innocents that might be nearby

@bp968 That said, I think 5.56 is an excellent HD round, and if you don't mind taking the extra second to charge the weapon, then a *good* ar15 makes an excellent HD weapon. Keep in mind though that the concussion blast from a 5.56/223 leaving a 16" or 18" barrel is enough to permanently harm your hearing. Still, it *is* much easier to use a shoulder weapon then a pistol.

5.56 penetrates walls worse then 9mm or 40cal. I think a 5.56 or 300 blackout make an excellent HD weapon. Here is my problem with your *average* gun owner using a, for example, AR15 for HD. The AR15 uses a floating firing pin and the pin slams into the primer when you load the weapon, making loading it in your house a "potentionally" iffy idea (yes, I know its highly unlikely to be a problem). In fact, I just won't leave my rifle with one in the chamber in my house because of that.
-
@timmyjunior1 Because we all know a 9mm can't go through drywall.

@MrDip02 If your assuming in a masonary block wall that it could not penetrate only a small portion of the blocks are grouted(filled with concrete) usually the corners and around doors and windows.
Then lets talk about windows it could enter/exit through a window as well, the bottom line why risk it, you are responsible for every round you put downrange. The benefit are not even close to the downsides for me.
-
@MrDip02 Bullshit you are just flat out wrong!
I will start by stating over 1/2 of the homes in the nation are constructed in a framed manner with either a stucco system out west or siding for the midwest and east. A .223 could easily pentrate a body and thats assuming you dont miss the person, a wall an additional wall and into another body.

nice vid jack nut kill your neighbors with a 223 fuck that. 45acp glock or 1911 or 12g in the house is good. Dont kill timmy you bastard.
A woman once asked a man "sir, I see you are wearing a pistol around your waste are you expecting trouble?" The man replied "no maam, if I was expecting trouble I would have brought my rifle."

Great, until it goes through your wall and hits your neighbors kid.
