@iHeartCoolStuff im studying physics in university mate, the more i learn the clearer you see and this stuff makes a bit of sense afterwards. even mainstream (watered down) religion makes sense after you notice what nature is, basically energy, everywhere.

I would agree that the physical constituents of our body are recycled back into the natural physical world - sure! But as for consciousness that's a different "matter" ;) It doesn't just disappear or evaporate. Buddhism is quite clear on this (continuity of consciousness) consciousness is reborn into a new world and begins a new life as a new being. From the Buddhist view you didn't have your beginning at conception or at any point during the 9 mo. in the womb. You had a life prior to that.

Recently I have heard both Thanissaro Bhikkhu and Alan Wallace state that no where in the Pali Suttas does the Buddha state that there is no self. My readings of the suttas have shown the same. Edward Conze stated that "the Buddha never taught that the self 'is not', but only that it cannot be apprehended". What was refuted was the Vedic conception of Atman, an immutable soul existing inherently, not susceptible to influence from other things. Consciousness is reborn!

@IAmHanuMan The Tibetan texts often state that phenomena are LIKE illusions not that they ARE illusions. They are described in this way because, just like illusions, things do not exist in the way that they appear to. The way they appear to us is relative or conventional truth and it is real on its own level. Buddhism's position is that there is also ultimate truth but it does not nullify the relative by reducing everything to ultimate truth. You can't reduce one to the other.

I have listened to all 40 "segments" and have been touched profoundly. I'm starting them again........Everyone who is watching /listening to these teachings are at different levels in their personal evolution and will interpret them from where they are, helpful for those on a spiritual path with an open mind, and questionable for those who are not yet ready...........the music is VERY distracting and does not enhance the narrations

Sorry this is just as crazy as any other religion. If you want to understand the mind, look to science. Dont listen to crazy cultists who make up whatever they want.
Yes it is scary not knowing what happens after death and there are many questions. But these tales of reincarnation and complete spiritual enlightenment are nonsense.

@iHeartCoolStuff the "tales of reincarnation" are symbolic.. Buddhism IS a science.., Not a religion..;)

@IAmHanuMan Within the Pali Nikayas it is clear that the Buddha is teaching rebirth as a fact, not as metaphor or allegory. In Theravada countries Buddhists believe in rebirth in a literal sense. The case is the same with Tibetan Buddhism as the basis of the Tulku system and elaborate teachings on dying and the dissolution process in an effort to be reborn in favorable conditions. In Asia Buddhists don't simply think of this topic as tall tales or pure symbolism.

@Kensho79 The self and the soul are illusions.. -so what is reborn..? Our energy will be recycled back in to nature..;)
