watchout for the trolls. good clean vid.. dave canterbury had covered all but the glue. I woul'd hate to know what that glue smelt like, definetly out door use. another good 1 is soaking the cotton balls in rubbing alchol. or some good rum.
The best thing I've seen is hemp rope pulled apart into fibers & soaked in paraffin wax. It's waterproof, easy to light, & cleaner than handling vaseline.
You try igniting even a dry log with less than 50 matches without kindling or tinder. Sparkers last forever and can get wet. These other products are for when you don't have enough dry kindling and tinder.
Also you can submerge all those products (Except maybey the magnesuim. I don't kow much about magnesium chemistry.) and they will still work after you get on land, while matches can be ruined with just a bit of rain or a water baloon.
Thanks for this Wolf. I had never seen fire paste before. Never even heard of it. Very good tips. As for the comments about the knife, I believe when it come to survival, you have to do what works for you. If my canoe dumps me in the water, and need to make a fire fast or die, the technique that works is the right one. Don't listen to the haters man.
