A short video detailing how the families of Canadian aircrew (sadly killed in a training excercise in 1944) were traced from a photograph found at the crash site 60 years later!!

  • We were there last week and there is consideraly less wreckage than in this video. Has someone stolen most of it?

    Tc

  • I wouldn't have thought so--from what I understand, the site is protected and of course, there is a permanent memorial there.

    Thanks for watching the video...

  • I had a tear in my eye watching this very sad but at the same time fascinating. I hope it stays there for good. Thanks for posting the video.

I'm going there for the first time on Sunday.

  • @TangoCharlie27

I have visited the site recently (2010) and the amount of wreckage is substantial, as shown in the video. Is it possible you visited the other Wellington (R1465) crash site near Fan y Big/Pen y Fan peaks. There is a similar memorial there but much less wreckage than the MF509 site. The R1465 was also crewed by RCA airmen and also crashed on a training flight. The R1465 memorial is marked on OS maps, but the MF509 is not.

    Just a thought...

  • i did once for a laugh when i was a kid

  • @seanseventy do you rob graveyards too?

  • funny

  • vulture

  • Kids do need to know about those who gave their lives for our freedom, but these sites only exist because most people who visit Don't take wreckage away with them, will you put it back where it belongs?

  • i was here yeserday very moving , me and my mate managed to take a fair bit of the plane back to show our kids they need to understand that these canadians gave thier lives for us

  • we have bomber crash site near us my bro traced a pic of the aircrew..and we framed and sealed it.and put it next to the memorial...crashed on the way back from a mission..only half a mile from what is now heathrow airport..the site is just pass the m4 on the m25 anticlock wise
