@HAMayoral, yes, there are many different temperatures red wine is to be served. for instance, the red wines that goes with pasta, fish and chicken, are to be served at 16-18 celcius, and stronger wines will be served at 20, some even a bit over that. the temperature is essential to a red, one or two degrees will ruin the balance!
THANK YOU - THANK YOU!! For me as an European, I'm always highly irritated how Americans hold the glass not on the stem. Just as they're all thinking the long stem is just to make it look fancy! Please, do as told here, and proof at least a little bit of culture. Thank you, Americans!

They swirl it to oxygenate the wine to get the full flavor and aroma. I'm sure it becomes habit to swirl it before drinking for some people. Not everyone drinks wine to get drunk.
Though if you're in it just to get drunk (and you could care less about being proper; nothing really wrong with that either) then yeah, drink from whatever and however you want.
