HR-900 is debated one last time by the Natural Resources Committee before passing to the House of Representative for voting. Why are the other possessions or territories so opinionated about our political future? Produced by Hispanic Information & Telecommunications Network, Inc. (HITN) www.hitn.tv

  • Here's what I think is gonna happen... The people will keep on voting for the "status quo" as long as they get the chance. I think they should just be given only two choices. Statehood or Independence. Nothing else makes sense.

  • Here's what I know it's happening. USA is pivoting PR away from permanent union because we have outlived our usefulness to them. They will make PR vote over Puerto Rican or American soreveignty, will place statehood under American sovereignty and independence and a for of internationally legal free association under Puerto Rican sovereignty. PR sovereignty will win and colonial problem solved.

  • That's the nature of being a colony!

native Hawaiians often will criticize the 1959 vote because it had only 2 choices..statehood or commonwealth.

The US govt. doesn't want to face a media storm because it only offered Puerto Ricans 2 choices....statehood or independence. the commonwealth voters have to be reflected in any plebiscite or it won't be considered a real fully inclusive vote.

  • After all if France has granted provincial status to their last colonies like Martinique, then the U.S. can do the same with Puerto Rico...the difference is that Martinique speaks in the same language as the other French provinces while Puerto Rico would speak in a different language. It would be more like Quebec in Canada.

  • Only a crisis will solve this. A war or disturbance -something. Hawaii's anexation was shady at best and still negative feelings exist there on US occupation and statehood.

  • puerto rico was a testing ground to see how they could enter en latin economy , but look what happened . With this thought of taking over business they opened up the US economy so that any body could sell there own products in the US but it backfired because they trained their people to buy cheap shit, and this created a lot of shit, no i would say shit that's a lot of crap your selling. So by producing a lot of crap a normal person could afford something but that something would not last for l

  • its the U.S. congress that decides Puerto Ricans destiny, that would be like the decision making for the U.S. up to China
