hey not trying to be an ass or any thing but im pretty sure that first position would be index finger on the second fret and when ur index is on the first fret its half position.....

This is an interesting point. For Upright (double bass) players, first fret is considered "half position". However, bass guitar follows the rules of guitar in which case the index finger on the first fret is considered first position. Thanks.
