@budomaster11 Ya can't win against deluded people feller.... period!!. It's a bit like saying to all monotheists that god doesn't exist. When I see "aikido" as its performed in this way it will never convince the sceptics..... Can you blame them? Having come from Shodokan for the best part of 37 years, I know nothing! Your ability will deteriorate, that is real and natural. From a health point of view its probably OK to do mainstream"aikido" but from a self defence point of view? Forget it....
-
Well what would you expect from a student who worships the wind they blow....?
-
@towag Actually that last statement is true. If the aikidoist is good, the attacker is throwing himself, the aikido practitioner is just there to help him out. Try aikido before saying its all crap, you'll realize that there is nothing fake about it at all.
-
@budomaster11 say that to Ledyard Sensei, or Saotome Sensei, or Ikeda sensei, or countless other 6-8th dan aikido practitioners. You'll find that you will never be able to hit or resist them.

Horrible

Look at all those people! Its amazing how many people will come when there is no chance of injury which basically renders the system ineffective. Its sad to see so many people that would killed in a real fight. Aikido is not self defense. no matter how you want to lie to yourself.
-
@towag As for resistance, these come to mind:
- A test in Aikido is a demonstration, not a sparring session.
- Aikido practice has to do with both uke and nage executing a predetermined technique. Implied in the technique is atemi (striking) and other mode definitive (destructive) ways to resolve the encounter. Uke follows and rolls out of the technique in order to preserve himself.
Etc. You don't seem to have been to an Aikido dojo, so if you're really interested, you should go practice some.

@towag A wrist grab in aikido can be a prelude to a punch with the other hand, or going behind and trying to take down your partner. In addition, wrist grabs are a good way for beginners to start practicing without being threatened by punches or strikes. That is, it's a good way to learn the basics of facing an attack, and moving yourself and your partner around.
-
Why doesn't his attacker really attack him, instead of grabbing just a wrist or hugging as if to kiss him, there is no resistance at all and all is fake, the attackers are throwing themselves....

i was at this seminar and was very impressed with both the tests that were held. domo arigato Ledyard Sensei
What's funny is how video makes it seem slower. Sitting there watching it was REALLY fast. But I guess its nice it looks slower on video so we can actually see what is happening.
