Love Story of Jumping Spider (Carrhotus xanthogramma) ep06 ネコハエトリの喧嘩

Final episode of the spectacular soap opera played by the jumping spider, Carrhotus xanthogramma (family Salticidae). The new alpha male (named Brutus) had to defend his territory around the den of a subadult virgin female (named Cornelia) against rival suitors. The next up was Augustus. And immediately they started a one-on-one fight. This time I couldn't tell for sure which was the winner because their eight legs were all intact. The defeated warrior dropped out of the battlefield. And the life will go on.... The all events (ep01 - 06) was recorded on the same afternoon of early-May 2009 in Japan.

（つづき）最終脱皮用の住居に篭もるネコハエトリ亜成体♀との交接（交尾）権を賭けた♂同士の争い。今回は両♂とも五体満足で、残念ながら個体識別できない。敗者はパイプ­から跳んで離脱。喧嘩の最中はスーパーマクロモードでレンズを近づけても気にしないようだ。結局どの♂が最後まで勝ち残り思いを遂げたのか見届けることができませんでした­。おそらく交接は♀が脱皮した直後に住居内で行われるので、外からは見れないだろう。

Weird that u found two females together. I'm pretty sure if I left my two girls home alone in the same place, I would end up one less jumping spider. Itsy already tried to tango with my tweezers one time I was checking her nest. X-D

sounds like the species u have is far more aggressive than mine.

i just had to quit filming and go home.

i guess she would not start moulting on that day.

several days later, i visited there again and found only two adult females sitting on the pipe.
