The Double Standard: The 99 Percent Movement & the Tea Party

On Friday, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) dismissed the Occupy Wall Street protests and the growing 99 Percent Movement as a "mob" dividing "Americans against Americans." Then yesterday on ABC, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pointed out Cantor's glaring double standard: When the Tea Party — a similarly grassroots movement claiming the mantle of populism — arose, he happily endorsed it.
In the same vein, Chris Wallace declared on yesterday's Fox News Sunday that the 99 Percent Movement was getting more coverage "than it deserves." Of course, Wallace is one of the star hosts of a network that essentially served as the Tea Party movement's unofficial PR wing, posting dates and times for rallies on its website and promoting Tea Party events during their regular programming.
This double standard of mocking and vilifying the 99 Percent Movement as misguided, irrelevant, or even dangerous, while embracing the Tea Party as a fresh populist cure for the nation's ills, has been employed universally by the conservative echo changer, with Fox News at its locus.

The reason Occupy Wall Street is more favored is because the tea party spouts ideological nonsense. People saying, "Obama is Hitler" or "Get your government hands off my health care" and other silly statements who follow Sarah Palin & Glenn Beck. With the 99% movement, its a real awakening to the real flaws in this country. Its a leaderless force of people who once put their trust into the system and were betrayed, exploited, & stomped on. Now they march in protest for economic justice 4 all.

I find it funny that the tea party was viewed as this mass movement angry at Obama because of his race ON MAJOR NEWS NETWORKS BUT FOX and OWS is praised BY MAJOR NEWS NETWORKS accept Fox and Liberals have a problem with it? Hm sad, the hypocrisy worked one way and thats MSNBC, CNN and other liberal outlets who completely condemned the tea party while Fox news is the only network to have uplifted the tea party NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

@chazman800 And I'm a tea party member and your liberal message of destroy America will never succeed. I have actually been to one your events and I tend to find that is IT IS MOSTLY MADE UP OF LIBERALS sure you have a few libertarians here and there but for the most part it was radical leftist.

There is no double standard, the Tea Party represent lower taxes and better government. The Occupy movement represent being smelly slugs, being handed everything they want because they feel they deserve it because they were born, pooping on cars and being angry at successful people that worked hard to get where they are at. Who with more than half a brain would not support the Tea Party and not support Occupy.

Unfortantly you could apply the same double standard with MSNBC and other new channels on how crazy the tea party is and how patriotic the 99% the left and right need to quit smearing each other and talk things out you they may find more common ground then you might think.

@StoogeWatcher Weird, cause no one involved in the OccupyWallStreet movement claims that it is a liberal movement or has to do with a political party in the first place. Now if you believe this movement is liberal because you watch corporate feces spew out of a biased corporate news program while your brain cells succumb to deterioration and repress any chance of your evolution as a human being then that is your own god given choice.
