Maurice Jarre was a French composer and conductor who won three Academy Awards for his film scores. All were films directed by David Lean:
"Lawrence of Arabia", "Dr. Zhivago", and "Passage to India". He won his first in 1962 for the film score for "Lawrence of Arabia" from which came this overture.
