Shane was drinking a cup of coffee in the counter when he saw Frankie go out. He quickly went after him. He watched him.
"Lexie?" Frankie called out in the stables.
Alex came out with Chip. "Hey, pal. Chip and I thought you weren't coming."
"Sorry about that. Shane didn't want e to come in here."
"Don't worry about him. He's no fun. All he does all day is flirt with my sister, drink coffee and read papers. Just thinking about it bores me already." She rolled her eyes.
Frankie stared at her blankly. She quickly changed the topic.
"Anyways, have you rode a horse before?" she asked.
"Not yet."
"Oh. This will be pretty hard. Do you want to ride on Chip?"
"Yeah! He's the greatest horse I've ever seen."
"Haha. He sure is. Now, c'mon pal. Ride on!" She carried Frankie but failed to put him on top of the horse. "Ughh. I'm sorry."
"Maybe, I can help you." Shane popped out of nowhere.
"Shane?" Frankie exclaimed unbelievably.
Alex knew the boy was in trouble. "Look, Frankie has nothing to do with this. This is all my plan."
Shane turned to her. "I'm glad you finally talked to me. I knew you can't hold it in for long." He grinned.
"Pssh." She crossed her arms. "I talked to you because of the boy."
"Whatever. You still did. And I knew it was all your plan. Frankie would never do such thing."
"Yeah, sure. He's unlike you."
"Frankie? Did you hear that? Alex just said you're not cute."
Frankie looked up at Alex and she shrugged. "Don't listen to your brother. He's dumb." Alex reassured him then elbowed Shane on the stomach.
"Aww." Shane exclaimed with clenched teeth.
"Oh. I'm sorry. Was it supposed to hurt? Oh well." She turned her back on him. "Frankie, let's start the ride."
"No." Shane said bluntly. "We can't continue this until we've talked things through, Alex."
"There's nothing to talk through with you, Shane."
"Nothing? We should settle everything between us!"
"Why are you doing this right now? Can't you be an adult for one good hour and let your brother have a ride?"
"I will if you promise to talk things with me."
"You're really weird but something tells me that you're doing this due to Mary. But yeah...whatever makes you shut up will be fine with me." Alex finished.
"Good. Enjoy your ride with your crush, Frank." He turned then came back. "Can I ride with you, guys?"
"Sorry. There aren't enough horses." Alex flashed a fake sad face.
"Aren't enough horses? Who do you think you're kidding? I already saw all of them. I'll get one. Wait for me here." Then he went to the stables.

Shane came back after 10 minutes.
"What took you so long? It was like forever." Alex complained.
"Sorry. Who would know that a horse chooses its master? This horse won't follow me."
Alex chuckled. "Of course it wouldn't. It thinks you're just like its kind- a horse. You look like one."
"Hey! That's offensive."
"Why are you offended?
"Let's just pretend I did not say that."
"Too late, you just did." She rolled her eyes.
"Are we riding or what?" Frankie exclaimed from behind them.
"Of course we are, pal." Alex came to him and carried him up the horse. Shane followed her and helped her with it. After settling Frankie up there, Shane left his arms on Alex's. They were still for a moment then Alex pulled away.
"I'm sorry." Shane said in a low voice while looking down.
Alex let out a sigh. "Let's just pretend that never happened."
Shane looked up at her.
Frankie chipped in. "Too late. I just saw what you guys did." He frowned. "Shane, I thought you like Mary. Alex is mine, remember?"
Alex gave a fake chuckle. "Frankie, I'll definitely wait for you until you're on the proper age."
Shane let out a nervous laugh. "Yeah, Frank. Alex would make a perfect sister-in-law."
"For you or for me?" Frankie asked;confused.
They were both speechless. Alex spoke first.
"Why don't we have the ride now? It's getting too sunny."
