This is a brief demo of how an ATSC tuner works in newer TVs to get free digital (standard and high def) using a standard antenna. My setup includes 2 CM4221 clone antennas, a pre-amp, and some wiring. Total cost was roughly $100.

In this video you can see the channel guide, along with network names, and current shows. What I didn't show was how you can see the upcoming shows. You can set timers/reminders similar to digital set top boxes.

I'm getting all major networks in the golden horseshoe area.

  • Thanks for the vid. I would love to see an update from when you posted this video. As you know, there have been changes since last year. WNGS went off the air, for who knows how long. RTN went to WGRZ not long after. Have you ever received ION or Rochester in the last year?

  • @intoodeep7106

I get ION every once in a while but not often... Global seems to be stronger these days!?!

I currently run two antennae, both 4-bay bowtie CM4221 clones. One facing CN tower, other facing Grand Island, Buffalo. The antennae run into a cheap DigiWave pre-amp that accepts dual UHF inputs. It's bloody stable so far!

Going to try a mast instead of attic mount one of these days, possibly go with a single antenna and a motor instead. And if I do that I'll leave in attic. :)

  • Yeah I was just trying to show how the built in EPG works. There's a lot of people that still have no clue about DTV and ATSC tuners... I've been cable free for over a year now and love it! Hockey night in Canada is amazing quality.

  • Cool.. But EPG isn't included in all tv. Wich one you have which model p/n... Epg we always have problem to find with one...

  • How many channels do you get when you do it like this?

  • HD at the best price in the world, free!

I don't have as much channels coz I don't live in Toronto but so far, 7 HD channels for free, can't complain!

If only I can get ABC, FOX and CW, I'd be happy.

Might have to invest 100$ bucks for an external antenna, could be worth the trouble.

  • Not the best camera but I live in Toronto and see the quality of it and it is FUCKING AMAZING better then bell tv and rogers cable.
