Bono has entertained more people than Hendrix and Bobby Darin because from day one they set out to be a stadium rock band - they probably invented the thing - their music is basic so that it can be heard just as clearly at the back of the stadium. Hendrix played big gigs but he had a different attitude. Bobby Darin could not and probably would not have wanted to play stadiums. If you look at videos of Free playing to thousands of people at the IOW festival it's just a completely different scene.
