@jensquintelier You can use preview to do those simple tasks (open the image file and click 'mark' and then use the little text box at the bottom of the window

@whitewallsaint Aperture is Really for Photographers who just want to touch up photos that where shot live (Weddings and Stuff) If is a tool that is so much help for our company.
What you are wanting to do is really a Photoshop Pro thing.
We also use photoshop but Aperture makes touch up much easier.
